President of Uzbekistan and Chairman of the Lower House of the French Parliament Discuss the Prospects for Development of Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue
On November 22, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the Chairman of the French National Assembly Yael Braun Piver at Bourbon Palace in Paris.
There was an exchange of views on the further deepening of inter-parliamentary cooperation in the field of reforms for the further democratization of social and political life.
The Chairman of the French National Assembly appreciated the progress of large-scale democratic reforms in Uzbekistan, including in the areas of developing parliamentarism, ensuring and protecting human rights and freedoms, and promoting gender equality.
A particular attention was paid to the aspects of ensuring gender equality. There was a huge progress achieved by Uzbekistan, where women occupy a worthy place in the legislative and executive authorities, business and the social sphere.
On September 2022, the 14th Summit of Women Leaders of Parliaments of the World was held in our country for the first time. The Tashkent Declaration on Enhancing the Role of Women Leaders was adopted.
They also discussed the key approaches to preparing for a constitutional reform, within which it is planned to consolidate the norms on the abolition of the death penalty, enhanced guarantees of human rights, solving the environmental problems and other important provisions.
Agreements were reached on holding the meetings of the parliamentary friendship group, strengthening interaction on the platforms of the UN Human Rights Council, the European Parliament, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
At the end of the meeting, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan left an entry in the Book of Honored Guests. The Leader of Uzbekistan also invited the Chairman of the French National Assembly to pay a visit to our country at any time convenient for her.
